No backlight after liquid damage

Should I bother replacing my display assembly on my mac? The logic board works except no backlight on the display. I ordered a used logic board on eBay, but was wondering if I should order a replacement display as well.

Hi Paul,

It completely depends on why there is no backlight. There could be residual corrosion that needs to be addressed. It could be that the backlight on the display itself has failed. With liquid damage, I would suspec that the logic board is the issue. It is certainly repairable by a shop with the correct equipment and knowledge.

Cheers,

Joshua

There is no visible damage anywhere on the board. I did a continuity check on the fuse labeled "P" according to some Google results. It appeared fine. I wasn't completely sure how to do a voltage check and didn't want to damage the board further. Also, the pins are so %#*@ small the probes on my multimeter would touch the adjacent pins and give me useless readings.

Also, after I had already seen a non-working backlight, I tinkered around with the LVDS connector cable...accidentally, and, successfully plugged it back in upside down and burnt a solder joint (I think that's what it's called). So I tried messing around with my soldering iron and flux and...probably ruined it more. The Mac still boots up...without backlight. I stopped touching it and ordered a new logic board lol.

I WAS going to try and replace the LVDS cable, but multiple experts have told me that I WILL break the glass. But, I'm not entirely sure yet if the display itself is the problem of the backlight.
