Boots to white screen (and i've done all the usual things and more)

Now, before anyone says the graphics card is messed up, i did a test of putting a pre-installed Windows 10 drive into it and the mac booted into the desktop (after the software read the hardware and compensated) and it works “perfectly” in Windows.

This was simply done to test the video card, the original OSX drive was put back in for further testing (added so others don’t get confused about what i’ve done)

I know what i did is a little “off the wall” but i tend to try and cover all the bases. And if it works %100 in Windows, then the card can’t be damaged.

Now i did all of the usual stuff going down the list and none of that works. It gets right to the point before it’s supposed to either show the install screen (on the install USB) or the desktop (on the drive it was installed on).

Login screen is fine.

The ONLY screen i can get to, without it crashing to white, is the Hardware Diagnostic screen and it revealed a battery error…which i thought was a little crazy considering i hadn’t found anything related to it.

Anyone?

A1297 model

Adding this for clarification:

Tested install USBs from 10.7 to 10.10 with same results. The drive, that was on it, was a genuine OSX install.

Déjà Vu! Same answer!

The MacBook Pro’s have two graphics services! Your Windows boot is using the internal GPU within the Intel CPU. Not the dedicated GPU chip.

Basically, you've proven the system is working except the GPU chip.

Here’s your systems specs: MacBook Pro 17" 2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo (Unibody)

Thanks....that's a step in the right direction. But i wonder why the battery error came up? It actually still works..The install USBs would get to the point, right before that initial install screen, and turn white. I actually didn't know the Macbook used 2 GPUs, i don't typically work on them. I generally stick to PCs.

Not really... It's an old system! You likely need a new battery. Thats the least of your concerns as the GPU chip is bad, Sadly you just can't get new chips as NVIDIA stopped making them years ago! You'll need to replace the logic board here's one option: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody (Early 2009) 2.66 GHz Logic Board But that will set you back $450 and you'll need a new battery as well [关联产品丢失或禁用： IF162-035-2] which is another $100.

Consider these costs!

I appreciate the input, i'll just tell the customer it's not worth the repair. But really, Dan's answer isn't the same answer. "Install OSX" and "it's a bad GPU" don't even qualify as close to being the same answer. While i appreciate the answer, Dan's was the actual answer.
