White LCD and can't sync with Itunes?

I drop my phone like most people do occasionally.

Unfortunately the last fall resulted in a flickering white screen at first and now a solid white screen with the occasional green or grey line when interrupted.

I've gone about searching for repair shops (will be checking one tomorrow) and was advised by the first to sync all my media files to Itunes for storage.

However, when I try to sync the phone with my cpu, I get a message saying that it can't sync the device because the device is powered down.

I'm probably not meant to understand all of this and the reasons why but if the device is on and functions in every other way possible with the exception of the LCD, shouldn't my iphone be able to sync? Does this have anything to do with the motherboard? Is this easy to repair or is my wallet doomed?

Thanks for your help guys

Sorry I was unnable to reply much earlier. I had a chores list of events to take care of since my iphone broke.

Never the less, I did have it repaired at a cost that was remarkably not too steep. I also decided to do some research and venturing into my computer.

Apple actually has the answer to the syncing problem. In your control panel is a "switch" that controls your phone's ability to sync with itunes. If you go to the apple website's help section, you'll find full instructions on how to access the settings in your control panel to turn it back on.

Just like Bob said you might have to disassemble your iPhone. Have you tried to do a hard reset? Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for about ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Also try the DFU setting and see if it is being recognized. DFU stands for Device Firmware Update. Unlike Recovery Mode, DFU Mode doesn’t load the firmware/OS currently installed before restore attempt. DFU mode is a last resort to restore if a restore using Recovery Mode doesn’t work. IT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR IPOD. Turn off your iPhone.

Hold down the power and home button.

When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.

Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.

Again if none of this works you will have to at least open it to examine your connectors etc. Goo dLuck

Hello,

Why do you want to sync it to iTunes? If it's for backup, try to copy all files to your computer by using Linux (in a live CD: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu... ).

Now let's talk about your screen: try to teardown it and check all connectors (link: iPhone 3G Teardown from step 12).

If you don't want to teardown it (you're afraid to break something), the best solution is to see a qualified technician to solve the problem...

I hope these advice were useful for you...
