Sometimes won't boot only plays the start-sound. The screen remains black and nothing else will happen. The front LED is permanently glowing. The PB also won't charge the empty battery. The DC-cable indicator is always green.
In some cases the book will start up, but after about 30 minutes it shuts down. No massage, nothing.

To rule them out I'd try a different AC adapter (make sure it's 65-watt, because 45-watt won't work with your machine) and a different battery, and I'd try to reset the PMU (hold down the power button for ten seconds while power is off and machine is connected to AC).
Beyond that, since these issues are all power-related, there's a good chance the problem is with the DC-in/sound board. I've generally found that flaky power issues are resolved by replacing this part:
