Powers on, no screen or sound. No 5 volt pwr.

So. I'll start off by saying. I got this tv from a thrift store for $12. I was told that it would be a waste of money if it doesn't work. My thought process was, if it doesn't work, costs $100 to fix it, than that's not bad! Still would be a 50 inch TV for $112. Buuuut, I got home, plugged it in, and nothing. Okay well not nothing, I get the green led in front of tv when I hit power button. A click from the back and then about 20 second later I get another click and tv is off again. I can do that 3 times than it won't do it again unless I unplug the tv and plug it in again.

Now, as far as testing goes, I went to Walmart and bought a nice new multimeter since my old one was no longer operable. I tested almost anything I can thing of. Fuses are all okay. The one thing that keeps catching my eye is that there is just no 5 volts anywhere on any board. I called a tv repair guy and he told me to check the "switch board" for 5 volts. None. So I know there is some kind of issue that I can't get 5 volts anywhere on the tv. I even checked the brown board that the power comes in to the tv set. No 5 volts anywhere on that as well. I know on some TV's there is a 5v on that has to be shorted in order to get 5 volts, but I tested every single pin and not a single pin in the entire tv set is giving off anything near 5v. I'm starting to run out of ideas and I'm about ready to say screw it and just let the tv repair guy come and service the tv for $85 diagnostic fee but that $85 will go towards the repair of the tv. Ooh and before I forget, there is a green led fault indicator on the power board. It blinks once every few second. According to the little "blink chart", when it does that, the 5v uvp is at fault. So my guess is that there is literally no 5v power to be found on the tv. What can I do?

First of all, please post the model number. Without that, there is little we can do to help.

Also, post a few photos of the boards. This will help to guide you on what to check/replace.

There should be 5V somewhere since without that you would not be able to try and start the set. The fact that you are getting a click indicates that the power button has told the internal CPU to turn on the set. Without 5V, this cannot happen.

Post the model and photos and we'll continue from there.
