No sound device (input or output) after surge through speaker

I had my laptop plugged in via a jack to a large speaker, when I plugged the speaker in to the wall (via and extension plug) everything immediately cut out, the speaker powered off and the macbook turned off and immediately restarted. Now I have no sound on my macbook and when I open up sound preferences there isn't a output or an input visible. I tried resetting PRAM and SMC but nothing's worked I assume the electrical surge has caused some hardware damage, does anyone have an idea what exactly it may have done? Could I just replace the soundcard and hope for the best? At the moment I'm using a very cheap external usb sound card which is working fine.

'''++Jack Rawlins++'''  you most likely shorted out the audio with the backfeed from the powered speaker. You would have to check the components along the audio circuitry etc. to see which component has failed. If unsure, contact some of the great people on here like @reecee or @tcrs_circuit to see if they can help you more with it.

Something got messed up in the audio circuit on the board.

There is no sound card. The audio decoder is on the board.

What concerns me is the restart. I doubt the CPU took a hit but it is always possible.

I would pull the board and inspect the circuit under the microscope if you have one, If not, your best bet is with someone that does board level repair such as myself or Rossmann Repair Group.
