How can I get back to my original OS?

I tried to do a factory reset because I wanted my original OS and not Sierra, I was experiencing shut downs or maybe it was hibernating, I’m not sure. But the problems started RIGHT after I had installed it. Anyways, I couldn’t reformat to “Mac OS extended journaled” because Apple had installed the APFS when I sent it to them for diagnostics. So I did what I read on multiple sites, and I booted in recovery, erased and now I’m trying to get my OS. It’s only offering High Sierra which I’m uber confused about, but I’m going to install it. How do I get my original OS that came with the laptop when I bought it?

You do not need the original source install disks.

You will simply need fast Internet via Ethernet or WiFi.

Follow the instructions here to boot into Internet Recovery.

Internet Recovery can let you format and reinstall the factory preinstalled OS.

You will have to source somewhere an install disk or .iso file for the operating system you want to put back on the device. Seeing that ur device is late 2013, my guess is that the original operating system was either Snow Leopard or Lion (10.6 or 10.7).

I would recommend purchasing a legit install disk for the operating system rather than finding one on a dodgy website and bricking your laptop. If I remember rightly, you may still be able to download these operating systems from the official apple website for $19.99:

As far as downgrading, You may be able to follow these instructions: https://www.imore.com/how-downgrade-maco...

Obviously instead of re-installing sierra, install your desired operating system.

Actually, before I did the install, I had to shut down and do it a little bit later and when I turned it back on, it brought up OS X Mavericks! Which is what I was praying for so I’m very happy lol. HOWEVER- I’m having another problem, though it’s not something I’m unfamiliar with. Twice now, the keyboard stays lit (and the apple on the front) but the screen is black and the fan(s) are or is running very loudly. The only way to interrupt it is to shut down by holding the power button. I’ve read solutions to this problem but never under my specific circumstances so that’s why I’m asking here!

Just came across this.

You can buy usb recovery sticks for any OS X or MacOS from ebay. I have a Mavericks and Yosemite usb installer myself (I have no need for the latest macOS and its “features”). Typing now off my second hand 2013 Macbook Pro with Yosemite installed off a usb (got rid of High Sierra faster than it was draining my battery). You can only go back to the OS that originally released with your Apple (2013 was still Mavericks).

Be mindful that you may run into some compatibility issues with newer software and limited access to older software. There are work arounds for most things - took me some fiddling but I’m happy with what I’ve got - for a lot less than a new Apple or Windows laptop. No issues with essential internet, email and word processing (Google Chrome is still a battery hog, though).
