1 month old battery not holding charge

Hi all,

I have replaced a battery on my 2011 MBP with the battery recommended from iFixit. Everything went well during installation and right after, the battery worked perfectly. After installation of the battery, I depleted power below 10%, then charged fully un-interrupted. I thought everything was good to go.

I then left town for one month and left the computer behind at home. When I left, i forgot to turn it off, and the laptop was closed in sleep mode, and unplugged from the charger. It seems the battery depleted completely.

Now the situation I have is, I can only power the computer on with the power cable plugged in. When it is not plugged in the battery gauge on the side of the computer, does not light up at all when the button is pressed. When the computer is plugged in, the battery gauge lights up completely when the button is pressed.

In the tool bar at the top of the screen after start up, the battery condition says to "replace now". but I just bought this battery, just over one month ago. This battery should be good still.

If anyone has any other troubleshooting I can do, I'd greatly appreciate it! Also if there is any other info you need, I will post.

Thanks!

My sister had the same issue a while back. What she did was look at the cable to make sure it was able to work properly, then the port to see if there was any markings on it to indicate scorch or burning... She checked out the battery...taking it out, waiting, putting it back. Tried to start up without the cable connected (ran for about 10-15 minutes before shutting itself down) Then she check what the battery management said. She replaced the battery AGAIN, and still a couple months later it was the same thing starting all over again. But finding out that after she reset the SMC, it worked great for a while.

Eventually, it started acting up again and she found out that even being on sleep, plus having items run in the background she was unaware of, caused it to overheat internally along with finding small marks on the board that were from the "new" battery that actually simply was defective they believe. She actually ended up having to replace the laptop with a new one. Also, they said that the cord seemed to be charging it properly, but it wasn't. It was only working at about 60% .

Hope you get it resolved.
