No Sound/Mic on Phone Calls

I have a Samsung S7 Edge (its a refurbished model). Everything works fine besides for making calls over the network... I can ring, and receive calls but when the connection is established we both cannot hear each other.

I have debugged by:

Using whatsapp to make a call (works) - which proves the microphone/speaker both work.

Used a different network sim (doesn't work).

Tried ringing the other person (doesn't work).

Tried receiving the call (doesn't work).

Safe Mode (doesn't work).

Third Party Dialer (doesn't work).

SMS works (sending and receiving).

What can I do to fix this problem?

I’m having a problem with no mic or audio during network calls, switched sim and same issue. Not even with headphones

Hi,

There are two internal microphones in later model Samsung mobile phones.

One is used for "normal" mobile phone calls and the other is usually used when the phone is used in "loudspeaker" mode, i.e. phone away from head.. A lot of apps use the upper microphone (used in loudspeaker mode) when making calls. Not totally sure which app uses which microphone but for normal network calls the lower mic is used.

Try using the earphones with the microphone attachment to see if you can both hear and be heard OK.

If you can be heard by the other party and you can hear them when making/receiving a call then it indicates that there may be problem with the headphone jack.

When headphones are used on a normal network call then the lower mic and the receiver are cut off and the speech/reception circuits are redirected to the headphone socket.

When calls are made in the ''loudspeaker" mode the headphone jack does not come into play as the speech / reception circuits are directed to the loudspeaker and the (usually) upper mic.

Is the headphone icon on at all, without the headphones plugged in when making network calls?

Only ask because when you plug in the earphones there is an internal contact within the earphone socket that operates and signals the audio controller to switch the audio away from the mic, / receiver to the earphone socket. The user is also notified by the icon symbol.

If there is an icon without the earphones being inserted then there is a problem with the headphone jack and it needs to be replaced, as mostly it is irreparable.

If there is no icon it doesn't mean the the audio still hasn't been switched over, there may be some other reason for that.

Have you tried a factory restore (hard reset) at all to see if this resolves the problem? Do a backup first as it will erase all your data and downloaded apps. You can always restore it after back to what is was using the backup.

It's not the best view of the exact location but gives you an idea of where it is located.

Had that problem recently with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the first microphone didn’t work, second one worked fine, so speaker call was there. I tried every solution possible, hard reset, safe mode etc. , nothing worked.

Very suspicious as the Galaxy S7 is a waterproof phone, microphone should not get damage by water or dust. Only thing that i could think of was the latest update that was released. Factory reset doesn’t reset your software’s update! So i download an older original software for my model, root it to phone using Odin and there u go. Everything how it should be. Just remember to disable auto update.

Shame Samsung tries to push people for a new phone upgrade by releasing doggy software update!!

Question . How and where do I download this original version of the 7 edge as I have the same problem after the update.
