no response from touching screen
I touch my screen and nothing happens. The home button - none of the bottom icons respond to touch. What is the remedy?

It seems as though there is a problem with the digitizer (touchscreen).
I suggest that first you try connecting a USB mouse via an OTG cable adapter and use it to navigate through the phone so that you can backup the phone, if you haven't already done this recently. Make sure that the phone's battery is fully charged as it will be supplying power to the mouse.

Here is a link that shows suppliers of the part. It is not a recommendation to use them. It is shown to give an idea of the cost of the part. There are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for LG G2 digitizer part to get results.
If replacing the digitizer seems too daunting a task, contact a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service and ask for a quote to repair the phone. You already have an idea of the cost of the part. ;-)

What make and model phone is it? Was your phone dropped recently or has it been subjected to anything that would cause it to malfunction?
It sounds like a faulty or damaged digitizer, but without knowing what make/model the phone is or history of the device, it is difficult to determine.
Also I am unclear about what the home button is doing. Is it working or not?

The phone in question is an LG G2.
It has never been dropped or abused in any way.
The icons at the bottom of the screen do not respond to touch.
In fact, very little responds to touch.
Please advise.
