you can still get your data with few tricks, never throw this drive. you just need a donor logic board of the same model number which you can find on the hard drive pcb, for that you need to open the hard drive case first, then you can order that pcb logic board from hdd-parts.com they do ship world wide whil would cost around $50, but thats ok at least you will get your data brother.

Hi

I would like to ask, what to do in case if the contacts inside the box are damaged (fired) . I heard that there is some possibility to get the pictures from the WD with som scanning mode but it is so so expensive. is there some other method thanks

Hey, where did you fix this atlast? I have met with the same situation now unfortunately, trying to find the solution.

Hi.Joining in with this topic.

Same scenario. My WD 5TB back up drive started to have connection issues, relating to the micro USB 3.0 8 pin port. However I would just jiggle the cable around in the port until it would connect and then prop it upright instead of flat.

Cut a long story short, it won't connect any more.

I took the drive out of the enclosure to get better access to the port and

see if I could tweak around with it but now completely unresponsive.

It seems it's something just the soldered connection of the port hardware,

thinking the board itself is compromised too or shorted out.

I'm hoping with advice from someone here, how easyish or difficult to try and install your own PCB board. It's well past any warranty from WDigital on this model.

Yours hoping.

One thing it’s possible to remove the data. You will have to find a way to open it up to get to the hard drive. Then get a sata to usb cable and plug it back into your computer and copy all the data off to another external drive.

The only thing is I’m not sure how to open it up so you will have to google it.

This answer is false, inside this drive, there is a WD Green Drive that has that same port soldered directly onto the board, so I wouldn't recommend taking that drive out of the chassis unless you have soldering skills.

You will need to solder a new port onto this drive. These new ports can be bought for $12 here. If you have a local repair shop that does soldering, you can send it into them and they should be able to do this repair. If you're confident in your soldering ability, you could give it a shot as well. I believe you would need to solder down 10 joints and a solder connection on each side of the port to hold it down.

Hi All,

This happened to me recently and none of the comments here really helpful. There is no data connection in the hard drive, mine is 12 pins and 2 pins. However, after googling and YouTubing for sometime, the solution is actually simple, go to the professional (Payam Data Recovery - Brisbane). The guy is really helpful and not trying to cheat your money. They diagnosed it and found my motherboard is broken and has to be replaced. That cost me $50. However, if there is more issue and you got to get them recover your data it will cost you $250-$800. Lucky for me.. I am extremely happy to get my work life back.

you can still get your data with few tricks, never throw this drive. you just need a donor logic board of the same model number which you can find on the hard drive pcb, for that you need to open the hard drive case first, then you can get the pcb model number most probably on the bottom - left side and order that pcb logic board from hdd-parts.com they do ship world wide which would cost around $50, but thats ok at least you will get your data brother.

So you have 3 option :

First : — you have to find and purchase that same broken usb 3.0 connector which would cost around 5$ and go to mobile repair shop for soldering.

Second :— You can do DIY stuff in this method , you have to buy the whole logic board of the same pcb model, and swap the boards yourself , tools needed — only the screw driver , no soldering stuff, but this method would cost you at least 50$ , I will recommend hdd-parts.com for this method.

Third :— Last step , look for the data recovery workshops in your city and handover your drive to them and allow them to fix this issue for you or for data recovery only. But if you feel that my data is so sensitive I can’t just handover this drive to anyone then please excuse this method and can try from above two methods. but before to do any mistakes always google and research about your problem, only a good keyword for search engines can save your time and problem.

so all I have to do is switch the boards? I don't need to solder anything?

完成的

@Tyler Gold yes just switch the boards, no any soldering jobs, just the screw driver job. but remember pcb model should be the same. otherwise you may lose your data forever. But this method is super easy if you order the right pcb for your hdd.

I switched out my boards but didnt know enough to check the pcb model numbers. They were both Passport external hard drives so I thought it would work. It didnt. I read your comment about losing the data forever. Hopefully that didnt happen to me.

完成的

No, the firmware chips have to be swapped from the bad PCM board onto the donor board. Need solder iron or heat gun to remove these.

OK so I have just saved my data from a 4tb WD Passport drive, as I type this the data is trickling back to a safe RAID array.

The USB-super micro whatever the name is -port failed. No hope. I unscrewed the board, carefully slid a jimmy tool under the board to disconnect the "internal port" Google 2060-800041-003 REV P1. I took a hot air station, got the port off the board. Then I soldered on what I needed for USB2 i.e. Red, white, green and black GND cable. Wikipedia got the pinouts if you are unsure.

What I will say is that WD uses the thinnest of layering for the traces on the circuit board. I accidently ripped the data cables (white and green) several times with the logic board traces coming with it, and had to resort to solder one cable straight to the leg of the controller chip.

Lots of work - micro-soldering, but I am just a DIY guy who likes Rossmann repair - and I got it working.
