Why doesn’t my TV get a signal from my Nintendo?

When I turn my Nintendo on, the TV says “no signal”. The Nintendo is on (the red light is on), I’ve set the TV to COMP/AV and I’ve plugged the red and white cables into the red and white plugs but have no yellow plug for the yellow cable.. I tried plugging it in all the other colored plugs and it still hasn’t worked (that’s what I do with my DVD player, which works).

My TV is HD.. is it possible that it is too new and isn’t compatible with the Nintendo?

I also had to purchase a new AC adapter.. is it possible that it’s not strong enough?

I have the same issue too, I know my TV isn’t broken because it accepts SD signals. What happens is when I turn it on, the “no signal” still shows on the TV. I even tried using RF and known working AV cables but still nothing on the TV nor sound

You need to tune it, needless to say but make sure its on the analog band and not the digital one (most of tvs has a digital freeview tuner inside and the signal is different. The old one goes in plain radio, normally itd be UHF band)

@erinsten12 red and white is audio. Yellow is video. So for as long as you do not have a video input, your TV will no get a signal. It might help if you tell us what make and model your TV is.

My TV is a 19” LED 720p HD Insignia

The green plug says video next to it and that’s the plug that I use to plug in my DVD’s yellow cord and that works. With the Nintendo, there isn’t even sound when I plug in the other two.

Green is the same as yellow for this purpose....but I think you should be able to change the audio settings from with the tv menu....sometimes there is more than one channel....because the tv needs to switch from internal tuner to external devices....for audio.As for no signal..again once your yellow cable is connected to a scart convertor with rca inputs you should be able to select av1 or av2 etc through the tv menu.

I would have thought if the nintendo has hdmi out...that port also covers audio...but you need to select passthrough.

@jomico what’s a scart converter? Is there no way of getting the Nintendo to work without having to purchase something?

If your tv has component or s-video then try to put the yellow lead onto the green connector otherwise you need a convertor....

If your tv does not have component inputs I.e. Green Red Blue then you will only have hdmi or scart....most modern TV sets only have hdmi...if you have scart then you can obtain the scart convertor through Amazon or eBay....try to get the one with a switch..because that allows the signal to go both ways...they are very inexpensive...about 7 bucks...you can connect rca leads from the Nintendo easily ...I am assuming you do not have hdmi output socket on the nintendo.

You also need to marry up the ntsc or pal...so if Nintendo is pal ..then switch tv to pal and vice verse.

hi my donny was basically you need to get a scart cable if your tv has one and plug the component in if it is In black and white there should be 2 inputs that have the same name on the tv

Well I've had this problem too but I fixed it all you have to do is get a VCR cable and plug it into your NES and then put it in your TV but if you have duck hunt and Mario combo one duck hunt won't work because you can't shoot on a flat screen you can only shoot on a CRT
