My 2001 pontiac sunfire will start after hitting the gas tank. However

will it stall if I drive it it is not sputtering or hesitating while running. But will not start without hitting the gas tank. want to go get codes and need to smog. want to retire car but not sure what to do. Can I drive it as long as I dont turn it off?
