Can I use it without keyboard?

The keyboard of my MBP is failing. It gives all kinds of false presses, and sometimes the computer doesn't even turn on. I ordered one, but will take a couple weeks to arrive.

Can I simply disconnect it, and use the computer with an external USB keyboard?

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBTopCase.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBTCKeyboard.kext/ — disable keyboard

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBTopCase.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBTCKeyboard.kext/ — enable keyboard

You can type the text using the virtual keyboard: System settings - Keyboard - Keyboard - Show the "Keyboard" and "Symbols" panels in the menu bar, as well as System settings - Keyboard - Input sources - Show the keyboard menu in the menu bar

Thank you, I'll do that if I can make it run long enough. Although, what I meant is, if is possible to leave the ribbon cable disconnected, and the computer will still work.

Thanks again

If you disconnect it you loose your power button. Besides if you disable the driver there really is no need to pull the cable.

But what happened here may have other consequences! Did you have a liquid spill into your keyboard? If you did your logic board maybe needing service as well.

I didn't. It has been working fine for a couple years, and the keyboard started acting up a couple months ago. Recently it started to shut down moments after booting it up, and we sorted the issue as the palm temperature sensor, so I changed the trackpad cable, which holds the sensor, and it booted. It all seemed to be fine, but after a few minutes on the desktop, it shut down. And is doing it again.

So obviously is not the sensor. I'm ordering a new keyboard and a SATA cable, just to discard any possible issue with those too. Eventually I'll figure out what the main issue is.
