Is this repairable or should I start looking for a new logic board?
Hi folks, so I opened up my iMac to swap the hdd for an ssd and accidentally damaged the first 4 or 5 pins (from the left) of the LVDS connector (on the end that connects to the logic board). I didn't notice it and when i booted the computer, all I got was a black screen. I've already ordered a new cable, meanwhile. All is well with the LVDS port on the logic board (well, apparently).
After that, I disconnected the LVDS cable and proceeded to use the iMac with a external monitor: super slow, kernel_task with enormous CPU usage and fans at max speed. Ran the Hardware Check and got the error 4SNS/1/C0000008:TLOp--124 (which seems to be related to the lcd thermal sensor - or the lack of it, on this case).
I went to check the connections, wondering if there would be some way to connect it without using the LCD (I guess it's not possible), and found a burnt/exploded component close to the LVDS port (right on the side where the connector pins were damaged). My guess is that somehow it caused some sort circuit that led to this:
- Is it related to the hardware error code and the slowing down of the computer?
- Can it be repaired or do I need a new logic board?
- Can it be bypassed while using the computer with an external monitor?
Thanks in advance, I really need to use this machine :)
Cheers!
