Have I damaged the screen?

Ok so I found an LG 47” Tv (exact model is 47LN570V). In our apartment complex we have a part of the garden where people can put electrical items, large objects etc to be disposed of.

So I brought the Tv back to my apartment and tried it. Just a flicker of the LG logo before the screen goes black. I’ve followed this repair guide

And I believe the issue is a number of LED strips in the backlight section, quite common I believe. Obviously I needed to removed the screen and diffusers to find this out.

When I removed the screen... to my horror!! It flexed!!! I didn’t support it in the middle and it flexed into a concave, slight U-shape. I couldn’t tell if it was cracked or not so carried on to test the LED strips - only 3 of 5 work.

My question is, did I ruin the screen?! I’ve taken a video via slow-mo on iPhone so the flash is a lot quicker than it is on the video. Do the vertical lines mean the screen is cracked? The lines are not actually at the point where it flexed. So I’m unsure.

Please help. Is it worth carrying on with this or should I just send it back to the bin?

looks like TAB error. Unlikely that this was from you flexing the display. (Bet you made an interesting face as it happened :) Remember where you got it from, so this may have been one of the issues why it was where you found it. Anyhow, I'd proceed with trying to figure out what the issue is. You already know that you need to replace some of the LED strips. Once you replace those and you still have the issue with the backlight, check the power supply board.

For the TAB error, once the screen stay lit, apply some pressure on the thin ribbon cable that terminates at the top of the LCD panel, directly over where those lines are. If the lines disappear or change then you know it's a TAB error. It refers to the bonding of the ribbon cable to the panel. Basically the ribbon cables are glued and the glue has come off (very simplified)

Hey oldturkey! Thanks for the answer. Yes my face was certainly a picture! (The horror!)

But that’s good news that you don’t think it’s because of the accidental screen flex. I should’ve mentioned that I didn’t notice the lines when I first turned the TV on, before I followed the tutorial. I think the reason it was in line to be sacrificed to the garbage gods was because of the screen flashing on, then off.

However in my haste to connect up again, I have noticed that one of the two ribbons connecting the screen to the timer circuit is not fully into the connector so that’s my first port of call.

If not, I’ll follow your advice with the TAB error.
