Crucial memory compatibility 8Gb

Does anyone know if the Crucial memory modules Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM Memory for Mac are compatible with the iMac 14,1?

Crucial support wouldn't commit to say there are compatible .. as "Memory slots are not end user accessible".

Yet a number of sites claim they are Crucial 8GB 1600 MT/s PC3-12800 Unbuffered 204-pin SO-DIMM for Mac.

Anyone done the upgrade using the Crucial memory.

Thanks in advance

-Craig

mmm... IFIXIT doesn't list the RAM for your system only a link to Amazon - Crucial 8GB Single DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin Memory - CT102464BF160B

So I'm not sure you found the best price ;-}

Crucial's Web site: $64.99 per 8GB

Amazon Web site: $61.24 per 8GB

First both are right!

Crucial is warning you there is not access door in the 21.5" models to gain access to the RAM slots (unlike the 27" models).

As far as the needed RAM the system uses PC3-12800 DDR3 (or DDR3L) modules. So you can get either type and you can boost your system up to 16 GB!

So lets get down to brass tacks here... The newer 'Thin Series' models are a bear to open! Make sure you use the correct tools and follow the IFIXIT guide to the letter as you can easily damage the display which would be an expensive Opps!

Here's the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2638 RAM Replacement. You'll need at least one set of adhesive strips to re-attach the display.

As reference here is someone who sadly didn't use the correct tools or didn't follow the proper technique to pull the display: Possible causes in vertical lines of LCD.
