Is there supposed to be water in the bottom of agitator

Is there supposed to be water in the bottom of my washer drum after it has been removed and the washer has been drained? Ie ballasts or something?

Update (08/16/2017)

No sorry I should have been more specific. I removed the drum from the machine so that I could change the bearing seals. When we pulled the drum out of the washer there was still quite a bit of water inside of the plastic base of the drum. It doesn't leak out and we can't get it out. Like it is supposed to be contained in there

Same problem, BUT the water is leaking on to the floor.

If it’s leaking, you’ll have to visually determine where the leak is coming from since I’m not there to see it. @shelley.belsky

I wonder if maybe it is supposed to be in there to keep the drum from floating up too high when the inner portion is filled with water? Like weighing down a pool noodle.

I get what OP is saying, and I don't think any of the answers really covered it. Water is inside the sealed base of the inner drum. I have the same problem on mine.

Yes, there should be water in the tub. You normally don't notice it because of the inner basket. The water keeps hoses and the pump seals from drying out. A dishwasher does the same thing.

does this keep the pump primed? @ladytech with Oldturkey out with Harvey I would really appreciate help with answering appliance questions this week. Thanks

The water is not needed at start up. Keeping the seals from drying out is the main purpose . If the seals dry, they'll get brittle, crack and leak.

I got hit hard by Harvey. No internet yet but I will answer as many as I can.

I believe he is referring to water in the sealed base of the inner basket. I have the same problem and I don't know if I should figure out a way to drain it before reinstallation.

@Grant Engfer Every washer will hold water to keep the seals and hoses from drying out. You won’t see this water. It is between the inner and outer tub. If you see water in the bottom of the inner tub, your clothes probably aren’t getting spun out. They are still wet when the washer stops, correct? It that’s the case, you could have something caught in the pump or between the inner and outer tub. You could also have a bad pump. You can remove the pump and you’ll see the impeller and if something is in it.

I hope this helps.

What he is Actually talking about water being trapped inside the inner drum itself once removed completely from the washing machine the inner basket has hollow plastic on the top and bottom look to be heat molded together creating a hollow pocket and a pocket for what I found To be for balancing purposes and some machines to lock it into spin alignment versus agitation alignment

Info from link below. Different machine but talking about the same question https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit....

Cause 1

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the washing machine. If the water inlet valve is defective, the wash may fill slowly or not fill at all. The water inlet valve requires sufficient water pressure to function properly. First, check the water pressure to determine that it is adequate. If the water pressure is adequate, try cleaning the screens inside the water inlet valve hose connection ports. If the washer still fills slowly, replace the water inlet valve.

Cause 2

Low Water Pressure from House Supply

The home water pressure might be too low. The water inlet valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Check the water pressure to the valve to determine if it is sufficient.

The inner drum, not the tub. i have the same problem, there is water inside the bottom plastic base….why? But i dont think it is supposed to be there….why do those who have answered keep talking about the tub? The question is clearly about the drum.

I have taken my washer apart multiple times in order to clean it because sand and dirt remains in drum after spin cycle.

All is clean, all works fine. But there is water in the drum. I imagine this water is dirty and while spinning the dirt is forced out. I believe the drum should not have water in it, and it should be sealed. Long answer, sorry. I checked prices of drums, almost $500…..not worth buying. I give up. This culture we live in is a replace culture. Why fix it.

The water in the drum seems to be in the top plastic ring of the drum. There is a filler hole that is permanently plugged so my guess is that there is water in there to keep the drum from getting out of balance and dancing across the room. In any case, the water is in there intentionally and it is sealed.
