So I just cleaned my carb and cylinder and replaced the piston along with putting on new rings. I can get it to start but it wont idle. Im working on getting the mixture tuned correctly but the only way it will run is with the choke open all the way. Not sure what the problem is. it will run but its not doing its best. Any tips or tricks to fix this?

Max sounds like theres a bit more dirt in the carb or the needles in the jets are belled . If its still available Id get a carb kit. Theres also the possibility the gaskets are not sealing properly and air is leaking in where you don't want it . You should also check the floats are functioning properly and not sinking . If the float has a hole it can take on fuel and sink leaving you starved for fuel
