MacBook won't boot up sometimes

My mac book won't boot up after shutdown for long periods. The service guy told the issue is with keyboard and replaced the keyboard. But the issue is not yet resolved, it works sometimes and it won't boot up first time in the morning after being shut down for more than 5/6 hrs.

Do you think that the problem is related to the macbook's temperature or because of time? If only happens when it is cold, i automaticly think in a solder of smd component at the logic board. Big trouble.

Maybe, I am not sure. It appears only when it is off for 5/6 hours or more than that. Already paid 200$ for keyboard replacement and issue is reoccurring :(

Try to locate an independent Apple repair shop near you. If they repair logic boards will help you more, beause they will understand the problem.

Hi, @ krans

I have exactly the same problem. (A1502, early 2015)

on your macbook Keyboard-replacement wasn't succesfull.

In my case i replaced the touchpad-cable -> no succes.

I can exclude an software-problem, I have tryed a older Mac-Version, mac os sierra and also installed macos mojave clean.

What is the actual situation with your A1502?

it just boots by chance, i would say in 20 % of all tries, when it boots it just works fine there are no problems, also the diagnosis from apple with hitting the d button when booting said there are no problems. mostly it wont boot, and its not usable with that damage.

i'm afraid too that in the workshop they'll replace such as the keyboard with no effect and it becomes very expensive.

do they replace small components at the workshop or just the main-parts?

I would recommend trying a trackpad cable (£10), if the trackpad is not recognised on the 13" 2015 models, the keyboard will not work at all.

On this model in particular, I have seen a lot where the cable intermittently fails (keyboard and trackpad sometimes works, sometimes doesn't) and it sounds like the periods where you can't boot is where the trackpad cable is acting up.

I have seen these with your exact issue, ones where it will randomly act up whilst switched on or when sleeping/waking. It's a cheap part, try that first, then I would recommend taking it to a repairer who will have the test parts available, so they can easily diagnose this properly.

What does the MagSafe LED tell you? Is it Green or Amber? Dim or bright?

Review this Apple T/N: Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters. It maybe your contacts are dirty or damaged.

Update (03/24/2017)

I think its time to pull the bottom cover off and using something to short across the power pads to see if the issue is within the keyboard's power switch. Here's an image of the power pads marked in Green circle:

See if using them instead is more stable than the button.

Sounds like it could be a corrupted Directory. I would need to hear more about it to verify that though. I would try running Disk Warrior on it to see if you can repair the Directory. If that doesn't work it could be a reinstall of the OS.

A corrupted directory wouldn't work react this way. He has a hardware level issue.

Reinstalled the OS, but this doesn't seem like a software issue.

Perhaps I am reading the question wrong but it looks like he said his computer isnt booting all the time which a corrupt Directory could fix. I had a computer in my shop the other day with that issue and as soon as I rebuilt the Directory the computer booted right up every time I would turn it off and back on booted right up. So perhaps I am misunderstanding the question...

@iceplow - As you can see Krans did give it a try and it didn't alter things.

A bad power button could explain this which is why I was directing him to test the alternative method using the power pads.

Sometimes you need to crawl before you can stand, before you can walk, before you can run ;-}

Going though a diagnostic process to identify the issue is often the better approach.

Is a simple rebuild not an easy solution!? I'm a tech and I dont find this to be something hard to do or even hard to learn how to do. Diagnostics and troubleshooting can be a really dumb I'm not going to go into details on here about it but I've ran around in circles before following a certain set of Troubleshooting methods. I'm just giving some advice you dont have to shoot down everything I say Sir. Kinda silly really.

I know this is an old thread, but the exact same thing is happening to my MacBook - same model. Even shorting the pads works once in a while. Did you ever figure out what caused your issue?
