Still no backlight after replacing LVDS connector

This laptop experienced water damage and I was able to clean it all up. The laptop works fine except there is no backlight on the screen. I have replaced the LVDS connector because a couple pins were completely fried on the old connector and there is still no backlight. There is a slight hole in the motherboard next to a few of the pins that I assume are not making connection due to the hole. Is there a way I can fix this?

Likely the trace is broken. Firstly, clean the capacitor I have pointed to in the picture, and the black diode to the right of it, using isopropyl. They are either burnt or damaged by the liquid, in which case it is worth replacing (capacitor value below, I suspect the diode just needs cleaning).

1000PF, 0603, 50V, 5%

Then, measure the voltage on the capacitor where I have instructed in the picture. If it is around 25V, this is fine and you can proceed with the trace.

On the LCD connector, pin 1 is ground, 2 and 5 are unconnected, so you just need to run a wire from pin 3 and 4 to the capacitor (where I have drawn an arrow in the picture). Only do this if you are seeing a high voltage on the capacitor, otherwise you will be wasting your time.

Double check your pins on the connector to make sure they are making a good connection too, looks like it is slightly further forward than normal, and I can see one bent pin in the picture.

Looks as if either yes, thats your issue or your back light is dead. What you can do is look for a pin out of that connector and see if the pins near the hole are for back light. If thats the case then thats your problem and i dont believe that you can fix it.

All the information I've found online state that pins 1-5 control and regulate the backlight which is right where the hole is. I might be able to fix it, it would just require soldering an exterior wire directly to the component which the pins connect to. I just need to find out which components the pins lead to.

Yes, thats what i was thinking. I dont know if its a multilayered board but if it isnt you can follow the trace and use a multi meter to confirm your correct and just do a direct jump.

If I remember correctly it was a customers laptop and he opted not to get it fixed after we gave him a quote. For your situation it would be hard to give you any solid advice as I don't work in that field anymore and I haven't working on that particular computer. If you have the iMac disassembled, look for a fuse on the mainboard near the LVDS connector. It'll be small, either yellow, blue, or green in color, and have a visible letter on top (usually a white 'P'). Check the continuity with a multimeter, resistance should be around 1 ohm. If the multimeter says OL or reads nowhere near 1 ohm then you have a blown fuse and you can replace that. That's all the help I can give, good luck. If that doesn't help look up 'Old Turkey' on this forum and he'll be able to help more.
