I have a Shorted LVDS connector

I was working on my friend's laptop, he had broken the LCD itself, so I went in to disconnect the LVDS cable from the motherboard so he could use it with an external display without having to worry about the laptop trying to use the broken screen by default. When disconnecting the cable, I was a bit careless and didn't set aside a small piece of metal that was holding down the cable (visible here, at 5:27 https://youtu.be/o2-SN9HPwh0?t=326), which then fell on the connector and caused a short circuit. I had also forgotten to unplug the AC adaptor. In my defense I was very tired at the time.

I paid him for the laptop, but now I'm wondering what can be done. I can still get external video via the VGA port, but nothing from the miniDisplayPort. It was always my intent to buy it from him and replace the screen, but after I caused additional damage I figured it was still at least worth it for the RAM and SSD. If it's possible to repair this I'd like to try, but I don't have any soldering experience so I'd need to send it in to a shop if it's possible.

@dante_gp you will have to post images of your motherboard and connectors so we can see what is going on with your board. You most likely shorted out some of the components on the board. So at minimum you will need to also post some clear images of your board with your question. Without a schematic and the ability to check on the component level this repair might become a daunting task. Use this guide to post your images so we can see what you see.
