removing front glass lens

in the earlier series the first lens by the cap could be removed like a normal lens by unscrewing the holding ring is this still possible with the s4850 model? would i need a rubber cup to do this???

Update (02/16/2017)

well actually the curved lens is what i remove to clean it. but it usually has 2 indents to put a lens wrench to it , But i have noticed they use flat rings and rubber cups.

Thanks for the replies

Are you talking about a cover glass (filter) which is screwed into the front lens threads? Can you take a picture so we can see what you are talking about here.

Some cameras don't offer a threaded mount but instead offer a bayonet or just a slip over lip for a hood attachment.

The curved lens its self is not something you should remove as the alignment of the lens group is dependent on it's mounting.
