Backlight on and off for 2 weeks then dead

About ~2 weeks ago, I tried opened my MacBook from sleep and the screen didn't turn on. I restarted it and still no screen. Upon further investigation, I discovered the display was functioning, I could see the apple logo and login screen, but the backlight was not. After about an hour I tried again, and it started up no problem. This happened a couple more times where if I left my computer on and came back, the backlight would not function upon waking from sleep but would work after an hour rest or so. Today, the backlight shut off while I was using the computer, and seems to be gone for good. I read up on similar issues online and checked the backlight fuse with a multimeter, but that seems to be functional, so I'm thinking its probably the WLED driver? I'm not quite sure how to check if this is the issue as its simply a tiny little black chip on the board. Any tips on how to check this, and where to go from there? It would appear my options are to either try to solder a new one on myself(not even sure where to find the part), or drop $500 on a new logic board.
