You can get a whole set of perfectly legal 5-POINT STAR TORX TAMPER PROOF SECURITY BITs right here: http://www.amazon.com/Anytime-5-POINT-TA...

Good answer--actually answers the OP's question. +

We are working on a source for supplying bits like these in our store. It'll be a little while, but since there's nothing to upgrade (yet) inside the new MacBook Air, there isn't a huge rush.

Actually, the link to Amazon only goes down to a T8 bit. and the MBA uses a T5 Torx Security bit.

Then get this one and solve all your security bit problems. I did, http://www.amazon.com/Neiko-100-Piece-Se...

The bit you are referring to is not the same as the "star" shape screwdriver in our 54 Piece Bit Driver kit. iFixit is currently not a vendor for the 5 point security torx screws seen in the 2010 MB Air teardown.

To clarify the other answers here, vendors for that bit are required to do have customers do the following: "In order to purchase these bits you will need to sign a letter stating that you are an authorized serviceperson for the equipment where TORX Plus® tamper-resistant screws are used." From a rough search, it seems that many vendors within the US (such as the one mayer linked) do not actually enforce this rule, which would make the bit easier to acquire, and somewhat nullify the intended security aspects.

It's a security torx, so technically it's illegal to sell a screwdriver for it- but that's unconstitutional. So go iFixit's route and file some flatheads, or buy one and support the constitution.

Illegal? Where do come up with this kind of stuff?

完成的

it's some bs rule banning us manufacturers from producing them, helps keep stuff proprietary.

The screw size is actually a T4 Security bit as I found out in swapping out the Flash SSD. The T5 Security does not fit in the MacBook Air.

Its considered a "pentalobe" driver and you can find all 6 sizes here

iPhones take : P1

Macbook Air take : P4

Macbook Pro take : P5

In its current "catalog," ifixit is claiming that you need a P2 for iPhone, P5 for Macbook Air, and P6 for Macbook Pro, so I'm pretty confused, but I'm leaning toward the answer posted here, which agrees with what kctool.com says.

I have a lot of respect for ifixit, but I think they made a mistake and should correct it, or if not, then they should clear things up to avoid this uncertainty.
