Does the guide end prematurely?

This guide was a bit difficult to follow because the photos didn't represent 'exactly' what I was seeing. I was able to find the corresponding connections.

The trouble I'm having is the guide seems to end a few steps too soon. I still have a display inside the upper shell, the piece with the Apple logo. I'm very concerned for the well-being of the 'old' pieces in question. I have to save the upper case piece while extracting the display.

Any ideas please?

Update (01/02/2017)

I had to take a break from this and am back now, hopefully ready to tackle the rest of this display replacement.

I've looked at the 15" display replacement linked above and have concluded that the differences are sufficient that following it for my purposes isn't likely. My next step is to remove the display itself from the upper case it is mounted in. The problem is I'm unable to find any resource that talks about how this comes apart. I'm attaching a photo for whatever purpose, maybe so the differences can be visualized.

Does anyone have a resource that shows how this comes apart? Should I post this as a new topic in the forum? Thinking maybe I should.(?) Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

Where you trying to replace the display? Following this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody Display Replacement. If you jump down to the very last step (Step16). Once you get lid disconnected from the main body it just swivels out.

@danj sounds to me like he is tearing down the display repair it. not replace it.

mmm... So what he wants is something like this guide: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2008 and Early 2009 LCD Replacement here in this set of guides.

Hello Dan,

Step 16 is where I and the guide ended. Disconnecting the 'lid' half from the 'keyboard' half is fairly simple. Once the 'lid' (or upper case) is separate from the lower case then removing the display from it for replacement is/are the steps missing. I have the replacement display in front of me and it didn't come with the upper clam shell piece (that has the Apple logo on it).

Am I any more clear?

Buz - I think both Mayer & myself see whats up here.

The guide is complete as the assumption is you are replacing the assembly Vs the discreet LCD screen. Hopefully the second guide I made a link to can help you. While not exactly the same model Apple was consistent enough the guide should work.

I agree, we do need a few more guides that get into things a bit deeper across a few systems.

This is where people can help out! Please consider creating a guide here's the start point: Create a New Guide

Dan, mayer, Seems perhaps there's a terminology issue. My concept of the 'display' is the screen itself and not the enclosure that contains it- my luck there's a terminology bank somewhere that perverts my concept - (laughing). I have looked at the link for the MBP 15" screen replacement. It looks EXTREMELY difficult. So much so I may reverse direction and let my friend find someone else do it. Using heat guns on equipment like this is completely subjective - makes my hands shake to think about it.

OT - how do you mark up in the comment section? Such as mayer's repair link?
