Why does my MacBook Pro shutdown when the battery is between 50-30%?

My MacBook Pro 13" 2009 Unibody shuts down randomly. I purchased it from a friend. I noticed the battery needed to be serviced and the body below the keyboard would get hot, so I got a new one installed at a local Mac repair shop. New battery is great, low cycle count. Heat issue was better. It even charges up to 100% percent no problem. But when it is off the charger and goes down to say below 50% it will automatically shutdown. I plug the magsafe back in and it boots up. Sometimes I do notice it can get down to below 20% and then shut down. What do you guys think? A battery or logic board problem? Thank you in advance for your help!

Had a similar issue when unplugged at 55%. It was fixed by resetting with:

@boogiexl ,Eddie. Checked a couple forums and found this, Link 1,2 You can try a battery calibration or Link 3 Reset Mac SMC (System Management Controller) use this reset when experiencing power management and battery problems: Mac isn’t turning on, sleep isn’t working, random shutdowns and reboots, battery isn’t charging, Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

As stated above, try a SMC Reset. If there is no change. Try reinstalling your OS and Verifying all Updates are applied. If issues still occur, have an Apple store or service provider run a MRI test, there is chance that the battery is not below the FFC % yet still causing shutdown like failure.

Good Luck,
