Laptop keeps rebooting at startscreen its stuck in a reboot loop

Hello,

I work at a pawnshop and repair laptops now we got in this Samsung Ultrabook 5 Series. And i got this weird problem going on.:

The laptop keeps rebooting at startup. I cannot enter the recovery state (F4) but i can access the bios (F2). I have tried everything but nothing works.

The weird part is that when i choose in the BIOS to boot trough a UBS with windows 7 it boots the USB and installs windows fine :S As soon as i remove the USB and ask the laptop to startup from HD it keeps rebooting again. But if i put the USB back in and don't push a button to access startup it boots back to WIN7 :S

I have installed another HDD, Replaced the battery. changed RAM. In windows did an error check but there is nothing wrong with it!!!! I Updated the BIOS, removed battery and pressed the "power on" for 1 minute.. nothing seems to work.

Thanks in advanced for the help.

Best Regards

Stefan

Hi, How far does it get into startup before it reboots?

完成的

Samsung Splash screen with the options BIOS (F2) or recovery (F4) then it loads the bar on left corner and powers off and reboots. When i press F4 it says please wait but then just reboots. But on F2 i can enter the bios where i tried all different options.

I don't have the option "Secure Boot" i am on BIOS "P15AAJ" the laptop came standard with win 7.

Again by putting a USB Stick in the system it will go past boot trying to boot from the USB but if i ignore the boot from USB it will go trough and start windows 7 normally.. :S

Hi, Is the HDD being detected without the USB inserted? Go into BIOS and see if it is being shown on start up.

Hi, Also found a thread where they said that installing from USB creates problems. Apparently there are no such problems if you install from an external DVD drive http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/...

I found a solution and i am trying this: (But as soon as i try to copy with bcdboot it says error copy file)

First, some background. This laptop comes with a 1TB HDD and an 8GB iSSD, which is used as a cache to speed up Windows and apps. Samsung uses Diskeeper's ExpressCache software for that purpose. This SSD causes a rather large problem to the Windows installer. For whatever reason, Windows refuses to install its "System Reserved" partition on the HDD, downright refusing to proceed with the installation if the SSD is already partitioned for ExpressCache. But, repartioning the SSD and just letting Windows install itself, doesn't make things easier. In fact, it causes major troubles. It appears that the BIOS really doesn't want to boot off the SSD, which is where Windows decided to install its boot partition. So, here's the thing- how to get the HDD into a state where both Windows and Samsung's BIOS were happy, and the SSD free for ExpressCache use.

Before installing Windows and things to keep in mind

For your convenience, you might need to print this guide and read once before proceeding.

Backup your drivers to an External Flash Drive or DVD, using Samsung Recovery Solution. (Bear in mind that you don't have any network connection after a clean install and neither a backup partition at your pc)

Make sure your BIOS are set to boot from DVD or USB Drive, by changing priority. If you choose to use a USB, you have to disable "Fast BIOS Boot" as well.

In case of using a bootable USB for the installation, a message might emerge, implying that drivers are not installed and cannot proceed further. Just click "Cancel". Then, you will be brought back to the welcome screen. At that moment, remove the USB drive and plug it back in, to a different USB port this time. Click "Install Now" again. The installation should proceed as usual.

Installing Windows

Insert the istallation media on your laptop.

At the Windows Setup Wizard, select "Custom Install" to view all disks.

At the "Advanced" option, choose to format all disks and delete the SSD.

Press "Shift+F10" to launch cmd. Otherwise, reboot into the Windows Setup wizard and choose the "Repair" option, in the bottom left corner, and in the tools menu choose cmd.

Type in diskpart to get into the partition tool.

Use the commands list disk and list part to determine which disk is what (check size parameters). For me, Disk 0 was the HDD and Disk 1 was the SSD. The following instructions assume this.

Select the HDD: sel disk 0

Delete all partitions on it: clean

Create a 100MB partition for Windows 7 (or 350MB for Windows 8): create part primary size=100 (or size=350)

Format it: format fs=ntfs quick

Assign it a letter: assign letter=f (if F: is in use, pick another one. Use the list vol command to see all volumes and their letters)

Create a partition that fills the rest of the disk: create part primary

Format the large partition: format fs=ntfs quick

Assign it the letter C: assign letter=c

Exit both Diskpart and cmd.

Reboot back to Windows Setup Wizard to install Windows into the large partition that was just created. !!CAUTION!! When Windows restarts your machine to complete the installation, do NOT change priority at the BIOS menu as usual, but instead boot from the installation media, once more, and choose the "Custom Install" option.

There is a great chance that Windows installed its System Reserved partition on the SSD, so choose the "Advanced" option and delete the SSD. Launch cmd (Shift+F10) and type diskpart.

Use the commands list vol and assign to ensure that both the system (F:) and the boot partition (C:) still have drive letters.

Select the system partition (sel vol f) and mark it as active: active

Exit diskpart and at cmd type the command: bcdboot c:\windows /s f:

Reboot and you're good to go.

After the installation

The easiest way to have Samsung's Easy Settings and ExpressCache installed to your machine is through the backup created by Samsung Recovery Solution, since you don't have an internet connection after the clean install. (Even when you get to have one, do not connect during this proccess (because of Windows Update interference) and wait till it finishes)

Browse the DVD or External USB Drive to find the "SystemSoftware" file and launch the "SecSWMgrGuide.exe".

Install "Easy Software Manager".

Install everything from the "Drivers" tab.

From the "Miscellaneous" tab, install "Windows 7 SP1 Critical Updates" and "Windows 7 SP1 common patches".

From the "Utility" tab, install "Easy Settings" and ExpressCache".

Finally, choose any other software you might need.

You are ready to connect the internet and install Windows Updates.

In case you didn't backup your drivers using Samsung Recovery Solution, you need to manually download and install these drivers from the Samsung's website.

To find out if ExpressCache is working, run cmd as administrator and type ECCmd -INFO. If it's marked as mounted and gives you the application's information then you're fine.

Hi, Did you try installing with an external DVD drive, if you have one that is?

完成的

Yes tried, i am now so far that instead rebooting i get some menu where i have to choose my boot device :S And only the HDD is selected (Windows 7 is installed on this) When i press enter i keep getting the same menu. It whont boot from the disk. However if i use the thumbdrive to go past boot it works again :S Now trying to install windows 10 pro just to see if. It looks to me there is an error while booting up is there anyway i can change how the computers boots up? and just remove a command-line or something :S :S: S :S :S

Hi, This link mentions something about an iSSD express cache where the boot files are stored. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/...

Hopefully it will give you some clues. It seems a lot of people have troubles with Samsung Ultrabooks and installing OS.

Thanks jayeff! I think the problem may lay in the fact that this laptop has a iSSD and some how this causes the boot problem.. :S

this is how i done it.

-installed windows 10 on 24gb ssd first and install windows 10 on 500gb second. you are only going to use w10 on large drive don’t worry.

-download XUBUNTU, create a usb stick of XUBUNTU (8gb at least) using BALENA ETCHER, boot from it, proceed install, choose INSTALL BESIDE WINDOWS 10 on 24gb ssd. let the installation decides about the size of XUBUNTU partition and proceed the installation.

done!

this will bring a XUBUNTU boot menu where you can choose windows 10 to boot. XUBUNTU can create a boot system on 24gb SSD that WINDOWS 10 somehow can’t. now you can boot your system without need of a windows installation media plugged in all the time.

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

to make windows 10 default boot do this

(first let’s make secondary windows 10 a default windows to boot)

-boot into windows 10 larger drive. open any folder (even recycle bin works), right click THIS PC on left hand sidie, click PROPERTIES, click ADVANCED SYSTEM PROPERTIES, click START UP AND RECOVER (SETTINGS), un-tick TIME TO DISPLAY LIST OF OPERATING SYSTEMS. click OK, APPLY then OK on following windows’.

(finally change default boot from XUBUNTU to WINDOWS 10)

-restart the pc and boot into XUBUNTU, enter your password, clcik wireless icon at the top right and establish an internet connection, click XUBUNTU icon at the top left, type TERMINAL and run it (its icon is a small black box with white underscore char in it).

(below instructions taken from here. lot’s of pictures there. https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledg... )

-now type this in terminal, hit enter

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer

enter the password you defined in xubuntu setup. Press ‘Enter’ on your keyboard when prompted. type below once its finished.

sudo apt-get update

wait for it to finish

sudo apt-get install grub-customizer

wait again to finish.

now you can exit from the terminal. click XUBUNTU icon at the top left. type GRUB CUSTOMIZER and run it. enter password. wait 10 seconds for list of opperating systems to show up. click WINDOWS 10, use the UP ARROW ICON to bring windows 10 on top of the list to first to boot if you don’t touch the keyboard during boot. in grub custommizer go to GENERAL SETTINGS and chose WINDOWS 10 default entry, untick SHOW MENU to disable XUBUNTU menu showing up at startup. or don’t untick SHOW MENU and make BOOT DEFAULT ENTRY for 1 second if you wanted to be able access XUBUNTU at startup. restart and done

======================================================

final touches

-boot into windows 10

you will notice you have additional drives (D: E: F:) in smaller sizes clogging up your THIS PC window. let’s get rid of them to make C: drive alone.

-press WINDOWS and R together, type DISKPART, hit enter, click YES, wait 5-10 seconds for cursor to start blinking.

-type LIS DIS hit enter and observe the list for 24gb disk which should be either DISK 0 or 1,

-type SEL DIS 0 (make sure the number represents the 24gb)

-type LIS PAR hit enter to list all partitions of 24gb ssd. this should show up the size of these partitions too. some are in 300-500 megabytes in sizes.

-type SEL PAR 1 (make sure it is around 300-500 megabytes) hit enter or change that number to something else matching that size (eg. SEL PAR 3 or 5 or whatever)

-type REMOVE hit enter. (this won’t damage anything, only the mounted drive will disapper from sight in THIS PC window. repeat the same for other drives that you don’t want to see in THIS PC screen.
