Quick question: is touch id extension cable paired to logicboard?

I know this is probably already somewhere online, but a google didn't yield helpful answers.

Anyone know if touch id extension cable is paired to the logic board? Not the home button sensor itself, the extension cable beneath the metal shield. Has anyone successfully replaced that cable and was able to use touch id and restore fine? I know all restores should work fine even with the cable completely disconnected since apple changed it earlier this year.

Thanks.

No the cable extension is not paired to the motherboard, only the home button is.

I can confirm this. Already replaced a few iPhone 6 and 6+ home button extension cables with and without metal plate.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. I'm going to do a repair like this and will update to confirm.

Just make sure you power down the phone, then disconnect the battery. If its for a customer, I heard that having them remove Touch ID purchases from the app store reduces errors but I can't confirm since I've never seen it work or not work in person.

No it isn't. It was in the iPhone 5s, and you couldn't really open it withourt snapping the cable. But i have opned a lot of iPhones, and lot of the 6' model. The cable isn't attached so you can open it without snapping the cable.

Happy repairing!

Greetings

I cannot count the number of iPhone 5S's I have opened and I've never snapped a Touch ID cable on those. Saying you cannot open a 5S without damaging it is just plain wrong.

I mean is it paired in software, not physically attatched like that, and yes like josh said, I've opened many iphone 5s phones without damagind anything.

Its not paired in any way. Its just a flex cable, no ICs. Take one apart sometime. The flex runs along the LCD shield and then they put a sticker over it as some kind of insulation. You can pull the flex cable from under the insulation and inspect it. Its just traces, no IC's.

iFixit should use their fancy x-ray machine on one and put this to bed.

Yea thats what I thought. If you were to use a multimeter in continuity mode, you should be able to trace each pin to the one on the other side.
