The water does stop running, even in the spin cycle. The pump works, but when the cycle is done, the water continues to fill the tub.

Hi, What is the model number of the machine?
It sounds as if the water solenoid valve is not closing properly. Is it the hot water or the cold? Try a test wash (minimal water, no clothes) using only hot or cold to prove which one is faulty.
