My fans are going full blast.

I just installed a new hard drive in my 2009 intel imac, and now the fans are blowing full blast, which is what I was afraid would happen because the new hard drive didn't have a port for the thermal sensor cord. How do I slow them down?? It's really loud.

James - The best way to solve this is to install a replacement thermal sensor that is designed to work with your Mac system. Here's what I recommend: OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac 2009-2010 Hard Drive Upgrade it will supply the systems SMC services the needed thermal input to correctly manage the fans within your system. In addition you may want to get a better view of things this is what I recommend for that: TG Pro.

The conecter that goes to the hard drive has a white dot on It. It needs to be facing up. It will connect two ways. If you install it wrong the fan will run fast and it will be noisy. You have to open it again and turn it over. There is a repair manual on ifixit.com. You need to know your EMC number. It is on the bottom of the stand. For instance mine was EMC 2308. It sounds like we the have same computer. I replaced my drive on an early 2009 21 1/2 desk top. Good luck. If you have any other question about down loads etc. post a comment.
