Bluetooth upgrade to use airdrop and airplay

So the new OSX does not support older bluetooth installed on my macbook. I was wondering if I upgrade to the Bluetooth 4.0 version would it recognise it and work?

No you cannot. The cards for Bluetooth 4.0 have different connections than the older models.
