Faulty trackpad or swollen battery in Airbook mid-2012?

The trackpad no longer works in my mid-2012 Airbook. I opened it up and the battery doesn't appear to be swollen. How much swelling does it take to impede Trackpad action? Is it generally visible when it occurs?

To test it remove the battery, here how:

Then boot with the Mag-Safe adapter plugged in. Try the trackpad.

Also there were EFI trackpad updates. They usually get installed when you update your operating system.

Great suggestion. I did this and the trackpad still didn't work (meaning, it won't click at all). If you hold the keyboard upside down then there is play or movement in the trackpad, but once you turn it right side up it won't move at all. I wonder if there is some sort of tension or spring-like mechanism in the trackpad that has been damaged (meaning that it remains in the depressed position and doesn't pop up to allow for a downward clicking motion). I'll probably try a new trackpad and see if that helps. Thanks again....

I have not adjusted this particular trackpad and am not sure it can be, I found nothing on the web on doing it. Some things to try:

First hold the machine upside down with it booted up and see if it will work.

Next (to eliminate a possible software issue see if an external USB mouse will work on it.

Update your software to 10,11,5

Lastly, replace the pad. I would go with from iFixit as it carries a lifetime warranty. Here;s how to do it.
