MacBook Pro 13" screen in MacBook non-pro Unibody?

Hi All,

Heres mad idea: is there a reason why display assembly from new MacBook Pro 13" didn't work with previous non-pro model?

One of the advantages of Pro is new, better quality display, apparently same one as used in later revision of non-pro MacBook. Plus, since we're getting entire display assembly, we get "Pro" logo as well :)

Any ideas? anyone tried?

Someone would have to check is the two displays cables connectors are identicals and located at the same locations on the logic board. I think that Ben Eisenman who's one of our specialists here could answer this question.

well, by looking at tear down of both, it looks like connectors are identical and located in same places.

I'm very tempted to try, but would love someone from ifixit verifying this first.

There is no reason, from what I know they are almost exactly the same, in fact, parts from the newer pro are used often in repairs for the short-lived MB unibody.

According to Mactracker they are both penryn and have the same Gcard's, so the logic board's are the same, so obviously compatible, contrary to what rj713 says, and there would be no video issues.

Today I replaced my Macbook Unibody screen with the pro MacBook Pro screen (13''). This because I had to replace the entire display assembly and it was cheaper to get the Pro one.

The camera data cable was a bit longer, but other than that there was no difference. The screen works perfectly for what I've seen, but I forgot to replace the Airport Card and the Antenna, which I have to do in order to use wifi. First thing tomorrow I will put those in and I'll keep you posted on my discoveries.
