Hi, Are you saying that you cannot shut it down using the power/shutdown link on the desktop and have to wait until the battery dies for it to shutdown? What happens if you have it connected to the charger (which is switched on)? Does it behave the same or can you turn it on and off in the 'normal manner'? What OS is installed in your laptop?
@amit does it shut down by itself? Could be an issue with over heating. I'd be checking the air inlets, fans and replace the thermal paste.

No it shuts down once the battery drains out. Day before yesterday it shut down n I was able to switch it on today in the morning
