Why doesn't my tablet respond to touch?

I accidentally stepped on my tablet and something cracked. I suspect something on the inside broke because there were threee cracks but you couldn't feel them. When I turned it on, it was going haywire and did things by itself. It would not respond to my touch and continues that way. What happened? Is it possible to take off the outer casing and try to find out what happened?
