Why are pictures overexposed -white colour, sunlight and brightlight?

Hi i was able to shoot with all types of light and colours especially Auto mode gave me extra ordinary results. Also the other modes gave extraordinary results-

Recently i noticed that i am not being able to shoot as the clicks are white overexposures given the following conditions.

1. White colour subject or background.

2. Direct sunlight falling on subject or background.

3. Bright artificial light.

I cant shoot anymore under the above conditions however I do have the options to shoot in room light, low light, indirect sun-light outdoors etc. Especially the P mode results are acceptable. Worst results in auto and other modes.

Referred the local Nikon Service Centre they were able to suggest that the problem with the camera unit but were unable to point the problem exactly. I did nt leave my unit for estimate as i know it would be a rip off.

With regards to above the only thing i could figure out is there needs to be troubleshooting by an experienced camera repairer.

Beware of the trial and error brand shops-

I am sure you will be paying for nothing.

Anyone knows about this technical fault please inform about the likely causes, some component needs to be replaced. Thats all i know now !!

When you are unable to shoot, exactly what do you mean?

Also, are your highlights blinking on the lcd screen?

Check your owners manual, paper or on-line, and see if there is a setting that stops exposure if the camera sees an overexposed area. That may be the case.
