I replaced my laptop battery and now the computer won't turn on

Laptop is 4 years old, the old battery would only run the computer for a short time. I purchased a new battery, turned the laptop off, unpluged it and replaced the battery. I let it charge pluged in to cord over night . next day I tried to turn it on but nothing happened, not one thing! I took the new battery out and put the old battery back in, because it was working fine that way before. Power cord connected, I tried to turn it on again. Nothing! Any answers?

The model #L655. The pins on the battery look clean and straight. It will not power with the battery out and plug in.

Alright, so after looking around I can't seem to find any Samsung laptops that have the model number "L655", only Lenovos. Are you sure it is a Samsung, or or are you sure that is the correct model number?

I am terribly sorry, I have confused it with another computer. It is a Toshiba Satellite L655.

Thank you in advance for your help. I also tried leaving the computer without any power source over night, then tried to power it up with the cord alone. Nothing but the ac power light was on. Then I put the battery back in, the old one. Nothing happened, ac power indicator on but nothing else.

I purchased a replacement non-oem battery (which I’ve done many times before BTW) for a Dell Inspiron 15 5559 that I just replaced the charger port on, also from parts purchased online. New battery installed, plugged in the charger, and when I hit the power button, an indicator light pulsed on for a few seconds, then off, nothing else, same thing now happens without a battery, and power cord plugged in. I’m going to have a chat with my battery provider, see what they can do for me.

Does it power on if you remove the battery and only have the power cable connected with no battery installed? If it does I would be checking the contact pins on the laptops side.

As David mentioned, it is possible that the pins that connect to the battery are bent or broken. Sometimes I have even seen a good amount of dust in them that makes it not connect well. I would attempt to do as David said and disconnect the battery and see if the computer turns on with just the power cord.

Also, what model Samsung laptop do you have so I can research a few things for you that may help.

I have a Dell E7470 2016 model. The power light on the adaptor cable is on and the on/off button on the top rhs is illuminated but laptop doesn’t boot. Suspecting it’s the battery that needs changed I’ve bought a new one and fitted it following on line guidance (YouTube). Do I need to charge the new battery before it will power/boot the laptop?

Thanks

I have the same problem with Toshiba Sattelite L750.

I bought a new battery that should be compatible with a long list of different models.

When the battery is in, it shows 100% charged, but if I remove the chord the computer dies instantly.

If the battery is in, it cannot start, until I remove it.

So basically, my laptop is now a stationary :)

I know this is an old post, but I found it because I had the same issue. But the problem is I was plugging the battery connector upside down. Once I realized that, the laptop worked perfectly.

I had a similar problem. I let the battery charge for a while then I was able to get into the diagnostics. Once it did a full pass, it came up with no issues. Not sure you have the same situation though.

my laptop got overheated (after playing heavy games without any good ventilation) and forced to shut down twice in one day. after that, when i remove the plug, my laptop loss power and turns off. i checked the battery and it got bloated. so i bought a new battery.

after i put the new battery, (out of the box), my laptop says it’s is @ 53% power… but when i remove gain the power cord. laptop still turns off…

Hi Michael,

Welcome to IFIT.

Yes I know new sites can be confusing. You have posted this as an Answer but it is actually a Question and also it is not a Samsung laptop.

If you want a quick answer go to the Answers Forum page:

https://www.ifixit.com/Answers

and click on the "Ask a Question" box near top right of page. Then PC> Laptop> Acer> Aspire and select as close to your model as possible - look on the serial number bar code label on the bottom of case. You can just click & paste your question form above in to the proper place. Delete the on above when working fine.
