While I am typing the cursor will unexpectedly jump to another position. Is my keyboard failing?

Hi! It sounds a lot more like the trackpad than the keyboard. Is there a chance you are inadvertently touching the trackpad with your palm while typing, and that this is making the cursor jump? To test this theory, you can plug in a USB mouse, and then in the settings turn on the "turn off trackpad while mouse is attached" function. If the cursor doesn't jump under that scenario, you know it's the trackpad.
