Sound on headphones don't stay on

Recently when I plug in my headphones the sound doesn't work, I have to mute it and unmute it several times before it starts working again. But when I don't use sound for a long time it will stop working again and I have to repeat the process above. It is very irritating because I won't hear messages coming in from games, skype, fb or other things like that. How to fix this? (My headphones work perfectly on other laptops and phones)

Laptop info:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4030U CPU @ 1.90GHz 1.90 GHz

RAM: 4,00 GB (3,88 GB left)

Windows 10 Home

64-bits

Hi,

Sorry to hear that nothing has solved your problem. One final thought after reading countless posts regarding various IDT HD sound problems and Win 10 (I assume you have IDT HD audio in your PC) and nobody coming up with a lasting solution, is to contact HP and enquire as to why for your model laptop there are NO audio driver updates for Win10. There are other updates for Win10 e.g chipset, graphics, keyboard, lan etc etc. So you are either running generic Microsoft Windows 10 audio drivers which are not entirely compatible (obviously) with your laptop or you are running earlier OS (Win 7,8, 8.1) drivers again which are not entirely compatible with Win 10 and your laptop.
