3 Connected to power, doesn't charge or turn on but shows charge screen
I have an iPod Touch 2nd Generation that was given to me for free. I suspect it has water damage but the indicator sticker has been removed.
After having a look inside, I can see no damage to the logic board, no marks, discolouration or anything.
The iPod will not power on, however when I connect it to a wall charger or computer (I have used various chargers, computers, wires etc) the screen powers on and shows the red battery with a lightning bolt under it.

I have left the iPod to charge overnight but it shows the same screen and still will not power on.
I can press the volume buttons or sleep/wake buttons whilst plugged in and the same screen is shown. Pressing the hold button does nothing.
I suspect the battery may not be taking any charge. However should the iPod still power on and be able to be used if connected to a computer or power point?

Update
So my battery arrived today, i installed it fine. The iPod doesn't power on by itself but when plugged into the wall it actually boots rather than showing the lighting bolt screen. When connected to iTunes it was stuck in a loop, showing the Apple logo then going off.
Its now it restore mode, saying connect to itunes. Im going to a restore (if it works) then see what happens.
Any suggestions as to why it wont power on (even with a new battery), can this be software?

Unfortunately Nick, a soldering iron really is your best bet. You <could> use a torch to keep the fine tip of a piece of metal very hot, but that's just incredibly more difficult. I highly recommend getting a cheap soldering iron. (We have very reasonably priced ones here: [关联产品丢失或禁用： IF145-018]) When you do the de-solder, be sure to follow these tips: Only hold the tip of the iron against the pad long enough to let the solder melt. Excess heat buildup has the potential to ruin the logic board or melt the ribbon cable. If you've completed removing one of the three solder joints, give the board a few minutes to cool off before doing the next one. When in doubt, apply less heat, not more. this video has some useful tips on soldering as well. I hope all this helps!

MARINNA it is so much easier if you ask your own question, then we see that it is a question and not an answer to on old question. Once you ask your question, give more information as in what ipod you have and what the symptoms are. What is it doing, or not doing and what have you done about it, did you reset it etc, that way you get way more responses. good luck
