Fix for Intermittent Screen Issues wher 2/3rds of Screen Turn White?

Hey I've got a 15" macbook pro A1226 and I accidentally dropped it about 3 feet onto the ground about a year ago. Lines would go wiggy through 2/3rds of the screen and if I lightly tapped the side they would go away... Through time the lines got worse and turned into the pixels completely going white. If I put a clothespin on the side, that would keep the screen tight with the case and it would be fine sometimes. Now I have to use one of those black heavy duty paperclip things to keep the screen working. The pressure is not applied to the lcd screen, it's on the small area of the case on the right side of the monitor.

That clip is beginning to lose out and I think the screen is getting worse. What can I do to fix this? Replace the screen? Is it expensive?

Cliffs: If I add pressure to the side it worked, but it's taking more and more pressure. What do I do?

It looks like this (pic is not mine):

Please help me out. I'm leery of taking it apart or trying to fix it until I get some opinions. Thanks.

Okay, so after looking around after nicks' answer I found a few things. What would I need to buy?

1. Display assembly

2. LCD Panel

3. Front Display Bezel

4. Rear Display Bezel

5. Display Data Cable

If I got the bezel's would that keep everything tight? Could those being loose cause the problem?

If the LCD is the problem, would buying the LCD panel suffice? Or would I need the Display Assembly? Is the Display Assembly the entire monitor?

If moneys tight try using an external monitor. If that works you could use the computer as a desktop until funds permit a proper repair. But before you give up on the LCD use the guide to open it up and see if the drop has loosened a connection. Good luck. Ralph

Your laptop has one of those dreaded 8600M GT cards, which are infamous for failure due to bad manufacturing. Hook it up to an external monitor, and see if it happens on the external monitor. If it does, yours is yet another fallen 8600M laptop. If yours is somehow still good, then change the LCD. The cables usually don't fail in these. It's usually the LCD more then the cables. You can find the screen options below.

However, I am going to give you some advice. Don't fix it. Get your data off, and get rid of this laptop. The 8600M GT MacBook Pros are all doomed and I have yet to see one make it this long without a GPU failure. Apple no longer fixes these under the recall or as legacy machines, either. They will tell you to buy a new machine, just like I am here. I'm just sparing you Apple breaking the news to you these are doomed and are eWaste when they fail.

I am also another one of these people who used to have one. I got lucky in the fact mine was at least nice enough to die in a year, and I was able to get Apple to take it back for a 2009.

So the lcd screen is the problem even if it works with pressure on the side? Not a connection issue or cable?

Sorry to be naggy, I just don't want to have to buy or fix something unnecessary (unemployed full-time college senior).
