I've searched around to see if there's anyone selling parts for this device and I'm really struggling. It would seem that the only means of repairing this is to purchase a second watch which kind of defeats the purpose. Outside of being a proof of concept and determining cost of manufacture and I guess an interesting and hopeful read I wouldn't otherwise see much other value from this information.

There certainly isn't any need for bitterness, my friend. Like many people that come to this site I am a DIY enthusiast. I was not aware that this product was "student-in-progress" nor do I fully understand what that entails or what kind of restrictions it poses. While I do pop over here on iFixit every once in a while to use as a source of inspiration and hope for a future of modularity versus the expensive 'rotate and dispose' tech culture that we are being constantly pushed towards, I do not completely understand the definitions or statuses and I am sure there are other visitors who may have completely missed it as well. I can only hope that we can work together to learn and to teach each other to try and get everyone at least in the same chapter rather than alienate and belittle someone for taking the initiative to educate themselves and make the cause, such as that of iFixit's, possible.
