When I go to take a picture a notice pops up on the screen 'Card locked' and the camera won't take a pic.

Does your SD card have a slide lock switch on it? I so, slide it to unlock. some older cameras can't read SDHC cards try a smaller SD card. According to Samsung's website 4gb is the max for SDHC cards in this camera.
