Impossible to charge my MacBook anymore.

Hello everyone,

for some reason, the AC adapter doesn't charge my Macbook battery anymore.

The Macbook is perfect, never suffered any "injury".

When I plug in the AC adapter, the charger doesn't turn on (neither green or orange). The Macbook feels that I have plugged in something because the battery icon on the top right side of the screen shows that it is under charging but the charging percentage never increases.

In fact it seems I can only maintain the actual level of charging but I can not increase it.

I tried to use other AC adapter and they don't work.

I have taken the Macbook to an Apple repair center and they told me I need to change the logic board.

What do you think? Could be just the DC-in Board?

It seems like every time someone goes to the Apple Centers it's always the most expensive thing. I don't trust them.

thank you guys for the replies! really appreciated them.

I do feel the same, mayer... I don't trust Apple Centers' opinions, that's why I am going to try to fix it on my own. ;)

To add to what Nick said, I would test the AC charger on another Book to see if it lights. It's unusual to get no lights. The DC IN board is the logical next step. Download and run Coconut battery to find the condition of your battery: http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutba...

the Coconut app will give me infos about the status of my DC IN board?

I almost forgot... I can not taste it with the Coconut app because the MacBook's battery has run out of charge and now I can not turn it on...

I have tried another AC charger on the MacBook and the light is always green (even though the battery is entirely out of charge).

Anyway, even with the AC charger plugged into the MacBook, the machine doesn't turn on.

Could it be the DC IN board or the logic board?

hard to tell, but the dc-in board is way cheaper than the logic board - i would try to replace that first

Try resetting the SMC, PRAM and update the firmware too. No disrespect to Mayer but Coconut app does not give you an actual reading of the battery power. Just use the Systems Profiler and under the Power tab appears to right. That give you all the information that you need if the battery is recognize, which should be good. But if it isn't, Houston we got a problem. Have you try to clean all the contacts? Good luck with that.

+ agreed. I have an older MacBook Pro here (Santa Rosa) where the charging light on any adapter lights or lights not, depending on ^^^@, so it seems. Anyway, a permanently green light without charging action points to a dead battery or, indeed, a faulty charging circuit on the logicboard.

I have the same problem, and its in mint shape, apple told me it needs a new logic board, and the warranty just expired 2 months ago.

is that some manufacturing defect , i feel ripped off working hard to earn enough to buy this macbook. and take care of it well to have it die in the end after 14 months of not much use.

shame on apple

Your Macbook and your charger both 'talk' to your battery. Your battery has a RISC micro and firmware that pretty much controls all aspects of your battery, it is what tells that little green light in your magsafe connector to turn green when the battery is charged. And your battery firmware can produce some really bizarre battery/charger symptoms. Before I change out any hardware I would try to find a genuine Apple branded battery that is currently working in a Macbook and give it a try. It could just be your battery. For more info see my lengthy post under 'Battery not charging or seen by OS'
