1996 GMC Jimmy Engine clanking, fixable in driveway or scrap

This car has had every problem in the book so far

But this one I can't pinpoint

I was driving it down the expressway, all of a sudden the RPMs stuck at 2 and it was slowing down. When I pulled over it ran for about two seconds, then died and dumped all my coolant and oil all over te side of the road

When I got it home (tow truck) I filled all the fluids up and did a compression test, no leaks and it held the oil fine

Starting it, you can hear a loud clanking noise from the bottom of the engine. The longer it runs the worse it gets until it dies

A mechanic I know came over and looked at it in my driveway and said the engine is shot, but doesn't know exactly what's wrong with it.

Is this something I could be able to fix in my driveway (I know a bit about cars, and have rebuilt engines before) or should I just give up an scrap it
