iPod won't turn on even when I plug it into my computer

I unplugged my iPod nano model A1236 from my aux cable in my truck and it said to plug it into power (the apple icon was there but faded) I didn't have a charge cord with me and when I plugged it in with my cable to my computer it didn't even turn on...nothing no iTunes booted up at all on my laptop. It won't turn on at all! This is a new cable and it's only been used a few times...anyone have any suggestions please??
