Screen repair help: is the tinted "gel" behind the glass replaceable?

Hi,

I decided to attempt the supposedly impossible task of replacing the glass only on my Galaxy S6 Edge, and it looks like I only partially failed. By this I mean that I was able to separate what looks to me like like an important part of the display from the glass and what looks like a cheap piece of gel. My replacement glass includes only the glass and not the gel. I totally wrecked the gel while trying to remove it from the glass. So, my questions are these:

1. Is the gel, in fact, cheap and easily replaceable? Is it even important?

2. Is this just generic craft store gel? If not, what is it called? How can I get a replacement?

If I sound like a noob, it's because I am; this is my first real repair attempt. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Matthew,

What you are looking at isn't gel, it's an adhesive/glue, in factories they use something called OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) but you need a lot of hardware for things like that, and it's not cheap.

Now, the cheaper option and what nearly every repair shop uses to fix and refurbish Samsung displays with new glass, is using something called LOCA (Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive) this is the same as the OCA, but in a liquid form.

You need this, and you will need some source of UV (Ultraviolet) light, as UV light cures the LOCA, I would suggest a UV lamp or something similar.

Look it up on how to use it if you are not sure, there are many videos showing how to refurbish Samsung displays using LOCA. :)
