Ants entered my Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac and smoke started coming out and we switched it off. Some liquid (presumably liquified ants) came out and burning smell was evident. Now I'm scared to turn it on again. How should I proceed?

One possibility is to open the Time Capsule and attempt to remove any of the ant debris. However, doing so would void any warranty you would have with the device.
Your best option, if the product is less than 1 year old, Apple will replace the device for you.....or.....if you have AppleCare in effect on a qualified product, the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule will be covered for up to 3 years from its purchase date.
