Cracked iPad Air Home Button replacement

iPad Air: Does anybody know how to remove the metal pin in the centre of the original home button along with the rubber surround in one piece so it can be placed on a new home button. I purchased a new home button to replace a cracked one and neither of these components were adhered to it or came with it. Is it just a case of using a heat gun/iOpener & a plastic spudger?
